Dr. Alan Sherr is an experienced chiropractor, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Medical Advisor, as well as the founder and director of the Northport Wellness Center, which he started in 1995 as a holistic health care practice that takes a vitalistic approach to health care and encourages individuals to take responsibility for their own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

The mission of the Northport Wellness Center is to “direct people to the realization that life and healing come from within and that, ultimately, the promotion and maintenance of health is superior to the treatment of disease.”

Dr. Sherr truly enjoys assisting others along their path to optimal health. A champion of the philosophy of chiropractic, which emphasizes the uniqueness of each individual and views health as a dynamic process involving the body, mind and heart rather than merely an absence of disease symptoms, Dr. Sherr embraces each of his patient’s journey toward optimal health and well-being as a personal one.

In his practice, Dr. Sherr cares for children and adults who seek health care maintenance, as well as those with chronic illness, musculoskeletal illness, autism and/or other developmental or physical disabilities. Dr. Sherr approaches all of his patients with knowledge and compassion. He recognizes that all individuals and families present with unique symptoms and experiences and treats them with a plan that meets their specific goals and needs.

As a result of decades of experience collaborating with other health care professionals, Dr. Sherr has skills and insight in many treatment modalities that extend far beyond chiropractic. Dr. Sherr is also the founder of Hyperbaric Medical Solutions, an independent provider of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to individuals who are challenged with various conditions preventing them from experiencing optimal health.

Hyperbaric Medical Solutions has three New York locations located in Woodbury, Lake Success and New York City, which is the first established free-standing facility in Manhattan to provide hard chamber HBOT. Hyperbaric Medical Solutions has one location in Boston, Massachusetts. The expansion of Hyperbaric Medical Solutions has taken place in South Florida with an existing facility in Fort Lauderdale and a new location recently established in Miami. 

Dr. Sherr founded Hyperbaric Medical Solutions because he believes in giving individuals every opportunity to heal and recover and to live an optimal life.

The Northport Wellness Center also has four low-pressure hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers that are currently being used by  patients who wish to improve and/or enhance their health and wellness.

More about Dr. Sherr:
Dr. Sherr graduated from the New York Chiropractic College in 1980 and has been in private practice for more than 40 years on Long Island, New York. He graduated from SUNY Binghamton with a degree in biology and psychology. He is a past board member and regional director of the Whole Health Institute and the New York Chiropractic Council. He is a member of the International Chiropractic Association and the New York Chiropractic College Alumni Association.

Dr. Sherr’s book, Heart of the Healer, won the Benjamin Franklin Award for the Best New Publication in 1986. He was recently nominated for recognition in Long Island Business News’ Health Care Hero Awards program in the Complementary/Alternative Medicine category. He is one of only two chiropractors to be selected as an awardee in this category since the inception of the program. He has spoken at numerous wellness conferences and local events and meetings to help foster a community of healthy and happy individuals.

Dr. Sherr is a life-long learner and proponent of self-education and teamwork in order to achieve good health and quality of life.
